Problem Space

❓🔍

Limited Time for Meal Planning and Preparation in the Workforce.

Many white-collar workers and single individuals face challenges in meal preparation due to time constraints and various factors. White-collar workers, in particular, have limited time for meal planning and preparation because of demanding work schedules, which can result in difficulties making healthy food choices and reliance on fast food or takeout.

Single individuals also encounter obstacles such as being creative with recipes, planning and purchasing groceries in advance, considering everyone's preferences, managing time effectively, and the effort required for cooking.

How might we provide healthier and personalized food options for people who is busy?

Solution

Achieving a healthier lifestyle is just a 'swipe' away.

The application offers three distinct modes catering to users' diverse needs: Game Mode, Personalization Mode, and Module Mode.
Each mode provides unique functionalities tailored to different user preferences and requirements. The application prioritizes user-friendliness and interactivity, ensuring an enjoyable and engaging experience for all users. Its fun and interactive features encourage users to share the application within their community, fostering a sense of connectivity and engagement.

Primary Research

#1
Amidst the demands of a busy work life, achieving a healthier lifestyle often remains a goal that is constantly out of reach.

Our research project targeted at white-collar workers, given their fast-paced and mobile lifestyle that often requires them to dine out. Our primary objective was to investigate the challenges they encounter while eating out, as well as their perceptions and behaviors towards healthy living.

To achieve this, we conducted interviews with a diverse group of 9 individuals, aged in their mid-20s, consisting of seven women and two men who work in different professional fields. Additionally, we consulted with 2 subject matter experts: a fitness coach and a nutritionist.
Through our research, we gained valuable insights into the barriers and opportunities that white-collar workers face in pursuing a healthy lifestyle while eating out. The results of our study can provide practical recommendations for food service providers and policymakers seeking to promote healthier eating behaviors in this demographic.

Based on the interviews, it appears that there is a pattern of three main factors that people consider when making decisions about their daily meals.

Probrem Finding + User  needs

#2
Build each feature based on the different needs and modes of users.

Based on the insights we gathered from user interviews, we have identified three different approaches that can help users select their meal options quickly and easily.

Motivation Mode
  • People want to stay healthy & fit but are not motivated to take action and stay fit is a huge topic.
  • People tend to keep healthy but they don’t have enough knowledge of nutrition
  • People like to eat at convenience stores because regular restaurants don’t provide nutrition details
  • People tend to eat at the same restaurants since there isn’t enough motivation to trigger them to change their habit

Key : White collars often lack the motivation to put it into action. Furthermore, they may continue to frequent the same restaurants, even if the food is not as healthy, simply because they are not driven to seek out new options.

Convenience Mode

  • People either eat at restaurants nearby or order food delivery because convenience is prioritized
  • People tend to choose restaurants which serve food quick
  • People like to go to convenience stores because ubiquity and diversity

Key : Convenience is a crucial factor in determining where and what to eat. They prefer food that is easily accessible and quickly served, as their lunch breaks may not provide sufficient time for them to spend more time than necessary on food selection.

Personal Preference Mode

  • Emotions are often emphasized when choosing food especially for the female because being in a good mood is important on working days.
  • People like to eat out because it gives people a sense of relaxation
  • The real healthy food is expensive and tastes terrible.

Key : When it comes to food choices, personal preference plays a significant role as people have their own set of criteria for selecting what to eat. In addition, emotions can also have a significant influence on decision-making.

Ideation

#3
The objective is to make the entire process both intuitive and enjoyable.

How might we motivate people to eat healthily and regularly?

Module Mode is quicker to set up than Personalization Mode and offers a general outline of a suitable diet and workout plan.

How might we educate users about professional knowledge in order to motivate them to have a healthier lifestyle?

In Game Mode, we aimed to create a feature that allows the system to quickly understand what users require at any given moment.

How might we suggest healthier food choices according to users’ emotions and preferences?

Personalized Mode :Once users input their personal information and health objectives, the system creates a detailed diet and workout plan tailored to their needs. Users can conveniently adhere to the plan and monitor their progress.

#1 If you are looking for Fun & Random
#2 If you are looking for reaching Personal Goals
#3 If you are looking for Modular Selections

User  Flow

#4
Designing an Adaptable and Customizable User Flow to Meet Diverse User Needs.

In the first version of user flow, we created a connection between three distinct features and designed corresponding screens. The first step involved users selecting their preferred mode of engagement. For the Personalized and Module modes, the application requested users to provide personal information to generate diet and workout plans tailored to their requirements. In contrast, the Game mode allowed users to immediately begin playing and answer questions based on their current preferences. The final step of each mode resulted in the display of a "Suggested Item" page that presented relevant restaurant information.

User Testing

#5
Exploring Neglected Concepts and Aspects: Enhancing Visual Appeal and Usability.

After creating wireframes and prototypes, we conducted user testing to determine if our features were useful to users.
  • Users highly value a short, fast, and efficient process when using our product.
  • Users may change their decision based on information provided about the restaurant. For instance, if a restaurant has excellent reviews and appealing food, they may be willing to walk for a more extended period.
  • providing "Being healthy" as an option instead of a standard condition could be beneficial.
  • Game Mode feature was the most popular and intriguing. As a result, we will use these insights to create high-fidelity screens for the Game Mode feature.

# Streamlined the onboarding process and emphasized the Game Mode feature

# Restructured the restaurant information page to include additional details, providing users with more comprehensive information about the restaurant.

# Refine the prototype to get a streamless experience

Visualization

Reflection & Takeaway
Design somthing for users, not for us
The reality has proven to be different from our initial hypothesis. We have discovered that culture, economy, and lifestyle have a significant impact on people's behaviors. In Taiwan, the health issue for white-collar workers is more of a "want" rather than a "need."

Work on one offering which is most desirable

Our initial prototype had too many functions that were overwhelming for users. To avoid such issues, we should follow the Agile Development concept when developing apps. If we wish to continue developing this app, it is crucial to delve deeper into building a comprehensive database of restaurants and devising efficient algorithms to enhance the user experience.
